Gulf Coast Village celebrates resident organist Alma Lee’s 100th birthday with party Aug. 23
What: Gulf Coast Village resident and organist, Alma Lee, is celebrating her 100th birthday on Aug. 23 with a huge birthday party in the Gulf Coast Village Auditorium featuring music, food and fun. Nearly 100 residents and staff are expected to join in the celebration event for this special resident. Lee is a long-time independent resident of Gulf Coast Village and enjoys sharing her love and talent for music by playing the organ during the community’s weekly worship services held for residents and visitors. Each Sunday, Lee magically transforms the Auditorium into a place of worship with the soft tune of the organ.
Born on Sept. 3, 1915 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Lee developed a love for music at a young age influenced by her father, a professional trombonist. She studied music throughout her schooling years, playing trombone in a concert band during her time at Marywood College and then moved on to play the organ and direct church choirs. Lee also taught music for 30 years as a music consultant for public schools.
