COVID-19 Update
March 27, 2020
Dear Families and Friends of Gulf Coast Village,
Those of you who follow Gulf Coast Village on social media may have noticed we have been posting more photos and videos of our residents in recent days. Because we limited visitor access to protect the health and safety of our residents, we are using social media to let family members, friends and community members know our residents are doing OK during this challenging time. And if the video of residents line dancing to Elvira doesn’t say that, I don’t know what else would! To see regular updates from inside Gulf Coast Village, please “like” or “follow” our Facebook page.
Our team continues to receive updates from federal, state and local agencies on a daily basis. At this time, Lee County and the City of Cape Coral have not issued a mandatory curfew or temporary shelter-in-place order. However, neighboring jurisdictions have begun that conversation and could be issuing orders soon.
No matter those decisions, Gulf Coast Village will continue to operate as scheduled. Our associates are considered “essential” employees and are permitted to travel to and from the community. We also have been in touch with our suppliers to plan ahead in case any travel restrictions are issued in the days or weeks ahead.
The management team and associates have worked tirelessly to minimize potential impacts or disruptions on our residents. Responding to a pandemic is much like responding to a hurricane – you try to plan as best as you can, but must adapt and react based on the present situation.
As of Friday morning, the Florida Department of Health had confirmed 2,900 cases within the state. Although the majority of cases are reported in large metropolitan areas, Lee County has the 8th most confirmed cases in Florida. COVID-19 is in our community, and that is why we are continuing to ask family and friends not to visit our campus. Individuals can carry the virus, yet show no symptoms, and we want to make sure our residents are safe and secure. Thank you for your continued cooperation.
Best,
Greg Anderson
Executive Director
